Dear Mom,
Thank you ever so much for the wonderful stationary with my name and all on it. It must have cost you a plenty. How do you like that "Lieut." stuff?
Your letter came today, the one with Charlie's letter in it. It's too bad he didn't make it. Was it because of his knee? What's his address now? I'll write to him even if he owes me a letter.
Lay off that stuff about forgetting the money. I'll get my $225 back flying pay this month and make it up to you.
I flew my first formation ride today in a P-47. The heavier the ship the easier it is to fly in formation and this ship weighs over seven and a half tons. Altogether I have 10 hours in the Thunderbolt now. For the size of the ship it's the sweetest landing airplane I've ever flown.
I went into town the other night for the first time. Tony, Millie and I went out for dinner. The town itself is a typical southern one. Anyway while I'm flying, I just as soon of to bed at 8 o'clock every night.
Plenty of Love & Plenty of Kisses As Ever
